Artichoke lamp
Designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958, the artichoke lamp is actually today’s version of the chandelier with its
layers of overlapping leaves that deliver a crisp glare free light from 360 degrees. You will not get this light
from any other manufacturer apart from Louis Poulsen of Denmark and of course you must pay for its fantastic look
at £3,350 for a nice personalized finish.
But then you know not all of us have that kind of cash to spend on a single light fitting so the alternative we
have is the Leaf Pendant Lamp from Dwell with looks that are as good as those of the former but for a paltry £225.
This wonderful chandelier lamp has also got features similar to its more expensive counterpart with each
particular leaf being specifically had cut by laser to ensure precision is maintained. It does pretty well when put
up in a dining room, hallway or even reception. There is nothing more attractive than a huge hand made chandelier
made of papier mache from recycled materials by Haitian artists.
Your contemporary chandelier, the large artichoke lamp of 1958 can be as big as three feet in
diameter made up of large overlapping leaves which interplay together to produce a comfortable light from 360
degrees, and because the leaves are cut by hand, you can be sure that they can be custom made to each customer’s
specifications. And because of its elegance you may want to have it installed by a professional. It comes
with an incandescent bulb of 500w/120V/E39/A19. The item is both big and fragile and therefore it is
recommended you use the White Glove Delivery Service, which will allow you to use the exact service that will fit
your specification with a special point to note that the shipping service fees will not include uncrating and
installation.
Apart from being simply modern, this lamp is also very admirable and you may actually find it hard to decide
which color to pick up between simple white and copper. During the 50th anniversary celebrations they made a
special artichoke lamp with lovely glass leaves and it was retailing at $60,000, which makes you wonder if there
isn’t something miss with these Danes.
The reason they give is that it is the exact replica of the original pioneer artichoke lamp made by Poul himself
in 1958 with 72 different leaves which help shield the direct source of the lighting. The PH artichoke is made in
such a way that it reflects the hidden light source through the covering leaves and the results are a wonderful
aura of soft light. You can design a sweet artichoke leaf theme to highlight your tiffany ceiling light as
well as illuminating your kitchens, hallways and etc because it features a warm bronze finish Made more than 40 years ago the PH artichoke lamp is actually considered a classical masterpiece with its 12 steel
arches holding those 72 copper leaves in a clean 12 circular rows which are able to beautifully overlap each other.
With the stylish design you can actually see the light source at the centre from any angle. It is said that
originally they were designed for Langeline Pavilion, a restaurant in Copenhagen and if you went there you will
still find them hanging.
